Rory crashes out of Valspar Championship in Florida

Rory McIlroy has missed the cut at the Valspar Championship in Florida.

The Holywood golfer missed the cut by two strokes at five over par. He had started the day on three over.

The world number 12 followed up an opening three over 74 on Thursday with a two over par round of 73 on Friday.

McIlroy opened with a birdie but followed that with a bogey. He carded four more bogeys and two birdies across the 18.

It is the sixth consecutive round he has shot over par and the second event in the past four he has missed the cut.

Elsewhere Graeme McDowell goes into the weekend on three over par, tied for 67th place. He shot a one-over par round of 72 on Friday after his 73 on Thursday.

And Tiger Woods continue his resurgence after years of injury woes to keep pace with the leaders at the halfway stage. After an opening round of one under he finished Friday with an impressive three under 68 at the Copperhead course at Innisbrook.
