By gareth Hanna

Rory McIlroy eagled the last to card a stunning six under par 66 and stay in contention at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship.

The world number 11 is now nine under par and just three shots behind leader Thomas Pieters, who carded a second round 65.

McIlroy is joint sixth at the mid-way point thanks to a four under par back nine on day two, climaxing with that cool eagle on the 514 yard par five 18th.

McIlroy shot a three udner par 69 on day one as he returns to the game following a rib injury.

Graeme McDowell, however, missed the cut by two shots after a disappointing two over par 74 on day two.
