Rory ready to pounce in bid for WGC joy
Rory McIlroy is right in the mix at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational after a second-round 67 left him three shots off the lead at Firestone Country Club.
It was a wild day for the Ulsterman as he struggled to find fairways off the tee, but he was still able to find five birdies to go with two bogeys to keep him right in contention at eight under for the tournament.
The 29-year-old made the turn in two under, but frustratingly dropped a shot at the 10th.
But he finished strongly with two birdies, holing out from a bunker at the 17th and then firing in a brilliant approach on 18 to put himself in a great position heading into the weekend.
World No.3 Justin Thomas is in a share of the overnight lead at 11 under alongside English duo Ian Poulter and Tommy Fleetwood.
Ireland's Paul Dunne sits at one under, and can take a big step towards earning his PGA Tour card for next year with a big performance to climb the leaderboard at the weekend.
