Ulster boys show class at Athlone to snatch title
Ulster Under-14s won the Boys' Interprovincial Championship at Athlone Golf Club after drawing with Munster on the final day's action.
Buoyed by wins over Leinster and Connacht on day one, a draw with their southern rivals was good enough to win the title on 2.5 points ahead of Munster in second and Leinster in third.
Darcy Hogg was most impressive for the Ulster side with singles wins against Charlie Quinn (Leinster) by 7&5 and Mark Gazi (Munster) 5&4.
Paired with James Thomas Sweeney in the foursomes, they accounted for Connacht's Aodhagan Brady and Luke Harrison 2&1 on Ulster's way to a 5-0 win against bottom side Connacht.
Meanwhile, Padraig Harrington is aiming to take inspiration from Shane Lowry's Open triumph in the Barracuda Championship, where high points totals rather than low scores will be the order of the day.
The Barracuda Championship - formerly known as the Reno-Tahoe Open - uses a Modified Stableford format, which allocates points based on the number of strokes taken at each hole.
