'What a feeling': Leona Maguire bags first professional victory as stunning final round tees up play-off success

Ulster's Leona Maguire has claimed her first ever professional victory in thrilling fashion at the Symetra Tour's Windsor Golf Classic in California.

The 24-year-old Cavan woman shot a seven under par final round 65 to chase down overnight leader Pajaree Anannarukam and set up a play-off.

Maguire duly held her nerve to birdie to par five play-off hole and secure the $22,500 winner's cheque.

"What a feeling. Absolutely delighted to get my first professional win," said Maguire on Twitter.

"Thank you everyone for all the lovely messages. Couldn't have done it without all the help from my family, friends."

Tributes have been pouring in for Maguire on social media with three-time major winner Padraig Harrington saying: "Congrats @leona_maguire on your maiden victory, first of many. And the first is special. So make sure you celebrate."

Her final round was set up with a five-under-par front nine that including four consecutive birdies from the fourth to the seventh. Two more shots were picked up on the back nine while she didn't drop a single shot throughout the day.
