Youngster Harry leads way into final day at Clandeboye

By Ali Gordon

Rising golf stars have been getting into the swing of things at this year's Flogas Irish Junior Open Series. Clandeboye Golf Club's talented young player Harry O'Hara goes into today's final, at his home club, in the lead with Ollie McEvoy from Ballycastle close behind and with a round still left to play. The overall winner will take home the Gary Player trophy as well as being named Junior Golfer of the Year.

Tournament organiser Michael Gallagher said: "It gives me great satisfaction to provide a platform for the future stars to shine on."

This year he encouraged budding young golfers from around the world to play in the competition. Over 1,500 took part, with events held across Ireland and Spain.

"I never dreamt that inside three years the series would grow to become the second largest in Europe," the UK and Ireland Junior Golf Coach of the Year said.

"Having kids this year fly in from Dubai, Spain, Belgium and across the UK and Ireland is testament to the professional organisation, the prizes on offer and the support I have from the sponsors.

"With one of the greatest sporting stars of all time, Gary Player, coming on board as an ambassador it lifted the profile of the tour for us," he added.
