Anderson Cup tie postponed as Kilkeel protest against Annadale

By Graham Hamilton

The Anderson Cup second round tie between Banbridge and Annadale at Havelock Park today has been postponed - because Kilkeel have lodged a protest following their midweek defeat.

The Mourne side lost 5-3 in the first round, second leg at Annadale on Wednesday evening, and 7-6 on aggregate, but now Dale's game against Bann has been put on hold pending consideration by Ulster Hockey's Competition Committee.

The issue surrounds the number of substitutions used by Annadale.

It was hoped that all four second round, first leg cup ties would take place today, but now that has been reduced to two.

That's because the first round, second leg tie between Instonians and Mossley on Thursday evening was postponed due to a frostbound pitch at Shaw's Bridge.

That tie will now take place today, with Inst holding a 2-1 lead, which means second round opponents North Down must wait a bit longer to see who they will face for a place in the semi-finals.

The two second round ties which will go ahead today are between Lisnagarvey and Bangor at Hillsborough (2.30pm) and Newry Olympic and Cookstown at the border venue (2.30pm).
