Ards take the high road to European Indoor Championship showpiece

By Staff Reporter

Ards Ladies will be playing in this season's European Indoor Championship after all, having originally withdrawn from the third-tier event scheduled for Russia in the New Year.

The Irish champions have been promoted to the second division by default and will travel to Dundee in February for the showpiece.

The Danish champions pulled out of the Scottish tournament and, as the next highest-ranked team, Ards have accepted the invitation to take their place.

Ards finished last in the second division in 2014 and so were relegated but they are ranked higher than any of the remaining teams in the third division series.

Ards will be up against English champions Bowden-Hightown, Dundee Wanderers and Belgian side Pingouin in the tournament.

"Travelling to Scotland while also much more affordable means that if any of our players are tied up with work commitments, they can fly out a day late and come home a day early if need be," said Ards captain Caroline Adams.
