Banbridge are lifted by Magee return ahead of key Rovers duel

By John Flack

Eugene Magee will return to the Banbridge team for Saturday's mouth-watering EY Irish Hockey League clash with Three Rock Rovers at Havelock Park after missing the opening 2-2 draw with Monkstown in Dublin last weekend.

Magee had to sit out the game with a minor injury but is fit again for the visit of the Leinster side, who won the play-off title last season at the home of their opponents.

On the way to the final, Rovers defeated their hosts before going on to beat Lisnagarvey in the decider so revenge will be the priority for Magee's team.

Bann's chances of reversing last May's outcome have been boosted by the fact that the depleted Dubliners fell to a shock 3-1 defeat against newly-promoted local rivals UCD on their home patch at Grange Road last weekend.

Luke Witherow and Jamie Wright, who missed the Monkstown game due to holiday commitments, will also return to the Bann line-up.

The other two Ulster sides, Annadale and Lisnagarvey, meet at Strathearn.

Garvey will start favourites after an impressive opening 6-0 win over Pembroke, while the Dale did well to come back from Dublin with a point in a 2-2 draw with Corinthian.

Results: Kirk Cup: Banbridge 2 (J Wright, A Tinney) Instonians 1 (S Pinion).

Women's Senior Cup: Armagh 0 Priorians 0.
