Lisnagarvey increased their goal tally to 27 from just four EY Irish Hockey League outings as they opened up a three-point gap at the top of the table with a 5-1 win over previously unbeaten UCD at Comber Road on Saturday.

It was another devastating display from James Corry's side, who made the most of their opportunities despite the students enjoying their fair share of possession.

Corry said: "I was very pleased with the performance, particularly in front of goal, as UCD are a good side. We have done a lot of work on our finishing this season, especially from set-pieces, and it was good to see that we converted two out of two.

"We will continue to work hard and there is always room for improvement but so far, so good."

Garvey made a dream start when they scored twice in the opening 15 minutes with well-taken goals from teenagers Troy Chambers and Johnny Lynch. UCD pulled a goal back when Guy Sarratt fired home a penalty corner but Corry scored a brilliant third to make it 3-1 at the break.

Garvey added two more in the last 13 minutes, James Lorimer and Andy Williamson finishing clinically from penalty corners.

Elsewhere, Banbridge secured their first win of the campaign with a 3-1 success over Corinthian in Dublin.

Johnny McKee grabbed the opener in the first half but Ulsterman Peter Caruth levelled shortly after the break. McKee struck again in the final quarter and Jamie Wright wrapped things up. Winless Annadale are now bottom of the table following a 9-1 drubbing by Three Rock Rovers in Dublin.

In IHL 2, Instonians lost 1-0 to Cork C of I while Kilkeel and Cookstown drew against Cork Harlequins and Clontarf respectively.
