Holders Bann blast through as Cup hots up

Holders Banbridge Academy and McCullough Cup winners Wallace High are both through to the quarter-finals of the Burney Cup, Ulster's premier schoolboy competition now sponsored by Sintons on the Bridge restaurant.

Bann beat Sullivan Upper 5-1 with Irish Under 21 international Johnny McKee scoring twice and the others coming from Robert Scott, Aaron Reid and Matthew Warnock.

Jack Wilson and Daniel Nelson each bagged a brace while Andrew O'Hare got one as Wallace defeated RBAI by the same scoreline at Hillsborough, Inst's goal coming from Michael Keane.

Also through to the last eight – the draw will be made tomorrow afternoon – are Grosvenor Grammar, Bangor Grammar, Regent House and Friends.

Bangor ran up double figures in winning 10-1 at Kilkeel High while Grosvenor edged through 2-1 against Methodist College Belfast.

Friends secured a comfortable 4-0 success over Donegal side Royal & Prior while Regent registered a 5-3 win over Portadown College.

Belfast Royal Academy came through their first round encounter with Lurgan College on a 5-0 scoreline and are due to face Cookstown High this week, while Campbell College are set to tackle Antrim Grammar this week.

Antrim had finished all square at 2-2 in their first round game against Ballyclare High but won the replay 1-0.
