Ireland goalkeeper McFerran lands dream move to Dutch giants
Ireland goalkeeper Ayeisha McFerran has landed a dream move to leading Dutch club Kampong.
The 23-year-old was voted goalkeeper of the tournament at last year's World Cup after a series of stunning performances in London.
She saved a total of seven penalties in shoot-out wins over India and Spain en route to the final in which Ireland lost 6-0 to the Netherlands.
Now McFerran will be up against some of the same players as the vast majority of the Dutch squad line out in their domestic league.
The Larne woman recently graduated after a four-year hockey scholarship with the University of Louisville.
The move won't affect her Ireland commitments, which include an Olympic qualifier later this year.
Ireland head coach Sean Dancer said: "It's a fantastic opportunity for Ayeisha as the Dutch league is the world's best, so it will be a case of us building a new relationship with Kampong."
