Ireland suffer a setback against Canada ahead of World Cup quest

By John Flack

Ireland's women slumped to a hugely disappointing 3-0 defeat to Canada in the first match of the two-Test series in Dublin last night.

Graham Shaw's team are using the games as part of the build-up to next month's World Cup in London and the coach will have been unhappy at the losing margin to a side ranked five places lower on the world list at 21st.

Canada took the lead in the 12th minute through Stephanie Norlander.

Holly Stewart doubled the North Americans' advantage early in the second half and Caashia Karringten found the empty net in the closing seconds after Ireland had withdrawn their keeper in a move that backfired.
