Jackson to captain Euro Indoors side
Ulster's John Jackson has been named captain of the Ireland indoor team for the European Championship trip to Santander next month.
The Irish are competing in the third division of the event, having pulled out of the international arena more than than 30 years ago. They must therefore start in the bottom tier but will be confident of promotion as the bulk of the 12-strong squad play indoor hockey on a regular basis.
Jackson, the vastly experienced Bath Bucaneers defender, who plays in a more advanced position in the six-a-side version of the sport, is joined by three other players from the province in the squad.
Neal Glassey, and brothers Callum and Michael Robson, all of whom play for Germany club Crefelder, like Jackson, are outdoor internationals.
Ireland are up against hosts Spain, Scotland, Slovenia and Wales.
They need a top-two finish to secure promotion to the second tier which should be an achievable target.
