Lewers fails in bid for double bronze

ULSTERMAN Iain Lewers has touched down on England soil again after a six-week stay in India, but his hopes of landing a second bronze medal before he returned home ended in disappointment.

The first bronze came when England finished third in the inaugural World Hockey League finals staged in Delhi and the former Annadale defender then stayed on to take part part in the professional Hockey India League, helping the Uttar Pradesh Wizards into the third-fourth place play-off on Sunday afternoon.

But the Wizards missed out on the bronze when they lost 3-2 to the Ranchi Rhinos.

On the flight home with Lewers was fellow Ulsterman Mark Gleghorne who also picked up bronze in England's success.
