Meet the new boss at Ulster Hockey

By Graham Hamilton

Ulster Hockey have appointed a new executive manager ahead of the new season which hits off early next month.

Jill Poots takes up the post on August 28 and replaces Angela Platt who stepped down during the last campaign to take up a new role with Ulster cricket. Jill's responsibility covers the promotion, development and management of all hockey in the province.

She joins from Sport NI where she held both Performance and Governance managerial roles and is looking forward to working with the Ulster Hockey staff and supporting the Management Board in their Strategic Direction.

Jill played hockey at club level for Victorians and Coleraine as well as squash at international level for Ireland and is married with a son and a daughter who both play hockey.

"The Board and the staff warmly welcome Jill to this demanding role and wish her every success," said Ulster Hockey chair Billy Pollock.

"Jill was selected from a list of high calibre candidates and I'm sure the hockey family will support her in her new role."

Ulster Hockey has launched a 'Young Umpires Programme' aimed at introducing young people to umpiring and developing them through training and mentoring.

The deadline for registering is August 27 and the programme begins early in September.
