Natalie Barr has become the third member of her family to join EY Irish Hockey League side Belfast Harlequins as she prepares to team up with her twin sisters Serena and Bethany for the new season.

The 26-year-old, who can play in midfield or defence, has moved from her hometown club Lurgan where she played last season after a spell in America when she turned out alongside her sisters, who are both current Irish internationals.

Natalie said: "I played with Bethany and Serena for three years at Liberty Flames when we were at university in America and coached them for another.

"It was a very difficult decision leaving Lurgan as I had always played there when at home but when the opportunity came again to play with my sisters, I couldn't turn it down."

Natalie's absence didn't affect Lurgan adversely on Saturday as her former club eased past Rainey 5-0 to open their Ulster Premier League title defence.

There were also wins for Ballymoney, Ards, Queen's and newly-promoted Raphoe.

Meanwhile, Ulster's U16 boys romped to the inter-provincial title at Stormont yesterday as they completed a clean sweep of victories with a 6-0 win over Leinster.
