Nine-goal Garvey safely through to Irish Senior Cup semi-finals

Lisnagarvey powered to a 9-1 success over YMCA to book their place in the Irish Senior Cup semi-finals.

The tie was postponed on Saturday when the Dublin team were unable to travel due to the heavy snow in their area but it was hastily rearranged for yesterday.

However, it turned out a disaster for the Leinster provincial team with the outcome assured before half-time, by which stage Garvey were leading 5-0.

Pembroke Wanderers have been awaiting the outcome of this game for the past nine weeks and they'll get an insight on what to expect when the two teams meet in an EY Irish Hockey League rearranged fixture this Sunday.

It was Garvey skipper Daniel Buser who opened their account in the 19th minute before Neal Glassey, Daniel Nelson and Andy Williamson all put away further goals, with Glassey getting his second just on the half-time hooter.

James Lorimer made it six early in the second half and that was quickly followed by a second from Williamson. Matthew Nelson's reverse and a second from Lorimer took Garvey's total to nine before Grant Glutz got YM's consolation in the final minute.

Three Rock Rovers are also through to the semi-finals after their tie at Cork C of I was also rearranged for yesterday.

Goals from Mitch Darling, Ben McCrea, Jody Hosking, Harry Morris and Conor Empey gave them a 5-0 success and sets up a last-four derby tie against either Glenanne or Monkstown.
