Pegasus seeking a new goalkeeper as McFerran moves on

By Staff Reporter

Pegasus are on the lookout for a new goalkeeper after confirmation that Ayeisha McFerran is heading to the United States in the autumn to undertake a hockey scholarship at the University of Louisville.

The Irish international  spent just one season at the club after switching from Randalstown but she will certainly be leaving Pegasus on a high.

It was the 19-year-old's heroics at the Irish Hockey League finals that were instrumental in helping them defy the odds to lift the trophy after wins over holders UCD and Loreto.

She was named player of the tournament just three weeks after taking centre stage when Ireland won the gold medals at the World League 2 tournament in Dublin where she saved the crucial penalty in the shoot-out win over Canada in the final.

"I am very excited about the move to the United States although I will obviously miss playing for Pegasus, especially as they will be competing in Europe next season," said McFerran.

It's understood she will be released to play for Ireland when required, especially if they can qualify for the Olympics.
