Striker Brown is ruled out of Ards' opening IHL ties

By Staff Reporter

Ireland striker Chloe Brown has been sidelined for eight weeks due to injury, signalling a blow for Ards' Irish Hockey League hopes.

Brown is suffering from a long-term knee problem although she was able to make her tournament debut for Ireland at last month's European Championship in Prague when she helped the national team claim the gold medals.

The University of Ulster student had narrowly missed out on a place in the squad for the World League 3 tournament and was listed among the reserves for the trip to Valencia in June. Brown has been advised to take a complete break from playing in a bid to get back to full fitness, meaning she will miss the start of the IHL campaign, which gets under way next month.

"I've had the injury for a year or two and it would only flare up every now and again but, back in May and June, even running on it caused me pain." she said. "I was diagnosed as having tendinopathy in both knees. I am working hard to get back as soon as I can and am having shockwave therapy once a week and I'm also working on a rehab programme."
