Sullivan Upper captain Zara targets another treble in semi-final tie
Sullivan Upper captain Zara Malseed would dearly love to continue a remarkable goalscoring record in today's Belfast Telegraph Senior Schools' Cup semi-final with Friends at Lisnagarvey (1.30pm).
Awaiting the winners will be Ballyclare High or Banbridge Academy who meet in the second semi om Lisnagarvey's second pitch (2pm).
Zara has scored a hat-trick in every round so far as Sullivan hit 21 goals in overcoming Royal & Prior, Royal School Armagh and Dalriada.
However, the Ireland U18 panellist probably won't mind who scores as long as the Holywood outfit can beat Friends and reach the final for the first time since 1980 when they earned a share of the trophy.
Sullivan go into the game as favourites against a Friends side they defeated 3-0 earlier in the season in a friendly match but their captain is fully aware that will count for little in tomorrow's rematch.
"I would know several of their players from playing against them or at U18 inter-pros and they will be hard to beat," said Zara
"Rosie Henderson, who plays for Belfast Harlequins, will be one player we'll have to look out for, but they have a strong team all round."
Zara and one of her co-captains, Rachel Barton, was a member of the Ulster U18 squad that lifted this season's inter-pro title, and both girls play for Ards in the Ulster Premier League.
"I think that has helped us at schools level as it's obviously a good standard of hockey and more physical than what we're used to with Sullivan," added the 17-year-old science student.
"We're looking forward to the game and our coach Sarah Hutchinson will have us well prepared - when it comes to training she makes us focus and get down to the hard work."

Friends assistant coach Claire Buchanan, who works alongside head of PE, Lesley Rodgers, also brings a lot to the table as a former Belfast Telegraph Senior Cup winner.
The Belfast Harlequins defender picked up a winners' medal when Omagh Academy lifted the famous trophy back in 2005 when they beat Royal School Armagh 1-0 in the final. The white-hot atmosphere generated by the anticipated four-figure crowd can make life difficult for the players and Buchanan knows all about that.
"Our coach at Omagh, Mary Swann, always told us to try and forget about the crowd and that's what we'll try to get the girls to do when we play Sullivan," she said.
While Claire won a Senior Cup medal nine years ago, Ballyclare High can boast a handful of players who did so more recently as several remain from the class of 2012 that beat Lurgan College in the 2012 final.
Among them is the player who scored the winning goal in extra time that day, Zoe Wilson, who is captain of the side to face Banbridge Academy tomorrow.
Zoe will be in direct opposition to another highly-rated player in the shape of Katie McKee, who hit two of the goals in Saturday's 3-0 quarter final win over Ballymena Academy.
Ballyclare were involved in a much closer contest as they had to come from a goal down to beat Wallace High 2-1 in Lisburn.
"The girls showed great character to win and we're now looking forward to playing Banbridge although we know very little about them," says Zoe.
"Katie McKee is a great player and will need closely watched but we're very determined to reach the final after losing in the semis last year."
Like Wilson, McKee has also tasted cup success as she was a member of the Armagh side that beat Dungannon 2-0 to win the Senior Cup last month.
"Hopefully we can continue on the way we left off on Saturday but everyone will have to work really hard for each other." Katie says.
