Rising star: Chloe Brown netted her first international goals

Chloe Brown scored her first goals for the Ireland senior team in a crushing 8-0 win over France in Dublin yesterday in their first match of the Three Nations event. The Ards striker, who hit a brace, was one of three Ulster players to find the net as Katie Mullan also hit a double after team captain Megan Frazer had scored the opener.

Five of the six Ulster players in the extended squad got pitch time with Randalstown's Ayeisha McFerran starting in goal and Shirley McCay lining out in defence.

Such was the hosts' dominance in the first half that McFerran didn't get a single touch of the ball and Frazer broke the deadlock in the fourth minute after bursting into the circle following a free she had taken herself.

Five minutes later Ireland doubled their lead as Naomi Carroll capitalised on a Gillian Pinder pass to smash the ball home.

Mullan then got in on the act as she volleyed home a loose ball to score with a clinical finish, while Brown and Audrey O'Flynn added two set pieces to make it 5-0 at the break.

Ireland started the second half with the same intensity and Brown got her second in the 41st minute when her drag flick found the roof of the net.

Four minutes later Ireland got number seven, Nikki Evans passing across the back line to the penalty spot for Mullan to slot home her second of the game.

Naomi Carroll set up Aine Connery who slid the ball home to complete the demolition although Ireland know they will have a much tougher encounter tonight (7pm) when they face Spain, who beat France 3-0 on Saturday.
