Ulster trio's hopes ended as England thrashed in Hockey World Cup semi-final

Hopes of getting Ulster hands on the Hockey World Cup trophy are over after England were smashed 6-0 by Belgium in the semi-final on Saturday.

Cookstown duo David Ames and Ian Sloan are in the England panel along with Antrim's Mark Gleghorne.

The trio had been a key part of England's run to the semi-final, even ousting Ireland, including Mark's brother Paul, in their final pool match.

Tom Boon, Simon Gougnard, Cedric Charlier, Alexander Hendrickx (two) and Sebastien Dockier netted Belgium's goals.

England will now face either Australia or the Netherlands in Sunday's third-place play-off.
