Ulster's Mullan scoops top prize at UCD awards
Ulster girl Katie Mullan has won the prestigious UCD Sportsperson of the Year award for 2017, beating off stiff competition from across all sports after a tremendous season for club and country.
The former Ballymoney striker captained the Dublin students to a trophy treble as they won the EY Irish Hockey League, the Champions Trophy and the Irish Senior Cup.
Ireland captain Mullan also helped the national team qualify for the World Cup for the first time in 16 years after a key win over India at the qualifying tournament in Johannesburg in July.
Mullan is one of five Ulster players included in the Ireland squad for next week's three World Cup warm-up games in Scotland, with Shirley McCay, Leah McGuire, Zoe Wilson and Lizzie Colvin also named in the 24-strong panel.
