Belfast Giants announce Darcy Murphy as their first signing of 2018
Popular Canadian forward Darcy Murphy has been announced by the Belfast Giants as their first signing of the 2018-19 season, returning for a second season with the Elite League club.
Murphy, 25, quickly established himself as one of the fan favourites at the SSE Arena last season and he rewarded that praise with some solid output from the second line, scoring 34 goals and adding 25 assists in a 59-point season for the Giants.
Having joined from ECHL side the Tulsa Oilers prior to last season, Murphy went on to make 68 appearances in teal, playing in all 11 of their Challenge Cup games and scoring a goal against the Cardiff Devils in the final en route to winning the title.
Murphy first came to prominence with Colgate University, whom he represented in the inaugural Friendship Four in 2015 and wore the "C" for in the 2015-16 season, before stints at Tulsa and the Elmira Jackals in the ECHL, while he also featured eight times for the Manitoba Moose in the AHL.
Elsewhere in the Elite League, Coventry Blaze announced the re-signing of Canadian forward Ben Lake and British d-man David Clements, while Guildford Flames announced the return of Great Britain international forward Ben Davies for the upcoming campaign.
