Belfast Giants announce new signing that the fans will 'love'

Belfast Giants Head Coach Adam Keefe says the fans will 'love' the club's latest signing.

He's a familiar face to the SSE Arena support as the Giants announce the return of David Rutherford. During the last two seasons, the forward played 60 games for the Belfast side, scoring 22 goals and contributing 25 assists, good for 57 points.

But the 30 year-old returned home to Canada during the off-season only to be brought back ahead of a 10 game road swing.

“David has put up good numbers in Belfast over the last two years and and I know our fans will love seeing him in a Giants jersey once again," said Keefe.

“When the opportunity came up to bring David Rutherford back to Belfast - the decision was pretty simple. He has already won championships in his career and he will play a huge part down the stretch this season."

Rutherford's first appearance will be at Colin Shields' tomorrow (Tuesday) at The SSE Arena with the forward returning to the Giants lineup this weekend for back-to-back road games vs Coventry and Cardiff this Saturday and Sunday respectively.

The Canadian originally arrived in Belfast in January 2016 from the Edinburgh Capitals when the Giants interrupted a move for the forward to the ECHL in North America.
