Belfast Giants still have plenty of fight left, warns Derrick Walser

By Stuart McKinley

Belfast Giants player-coach Derrick Walser has warned the Cardiff Devils that they still have a fight on their hands if they want to win the Elite League title - literally.

Giants defenceman Matt Nickerson and Cardiff's Trevor Hendrix have dropped the gloves three times this season, most recently on Sunday night when the Devils won 4-3 in overtime to end Walser's title hopes.

A Cardiff victory when they come to Belfast tonight would put them level on points with the Sheffield Steelers at the top of the table with just two games to go, but the Giants have no intention of just playing out the regular season ahead of the Play-offs.

"I don't think that Matt Nickerson is done yet. I think he wants another shot at Hendrix," said Walser.

"I don't like the word revenge, but we can be spoilers. We aren't just going to show up. We want to get back to winning games and get on a roll."

Craig Peacock is expected to miss tonight's game with a two-match suspension anticipated after he was thrown out of Saturday's 5-2 defeat in Cardiff. Walser himself remains injured, as does Johan Ejdepalm.
