Giants step into film role for a special screening of Ice Guardians
The Belfast Giants have teamed up with Odyssey Cinemas to host a special screening of critically-acclaimed documentary Ice Guardians tonight at 7pm.
The movie, which is partly filmed in Belfast, focuses on one of the toughest and most provocative roles in ice hockey: the enforcer, and how the role applies today in the National Hockey League (NHL).
Newsweek named it as one of their "Top 10 Documentaries for 2016" as the film takes an in-depth look into what it takes for a player to adopt one of the toughest and most controversial roles in the sport, both on and off the ice.
Featuring interviews with renowned former NHL enforcers such as Wendel Clark, Dave Semenko, Joey Kocur, Dave "The Hammer" Schultz and Brett Hull, the documentary gets the players' perspective on what it takes to make it as an enforcer in the big leagues and how important the role is.
Ice Guardians also features a former Belfast Giant in forward Kevin Westgarth, while another Elite League player, current Nottingham Panthers forward Brian McGrattan, is also featured, both of whom acted as enforcers during spells in the NHL early in their careers.
As well as watching the movie, fans will be treated to a Q&A after the screening with current Belfast Giants stars such as captain Adam Keefe, Blair Riley, Jim Vandermeer, Ryan Martinelli and more.
Tickets can be bought for tonight's event through the Odyssey Cinemas website or by calling 02890739134.
