Hungry Nottingham Panthers sink their teeth into Belfast Giants again

By Stuart McKinley

A hat-trick from Guillaume Doucet helped condemn the Belfast Giants to a second defeat of the weekend to the Nottingham Panthers.

And the Giants' only hope of avoiding a Play-off quarter-final clash with the Panthers in two weeks time is if Braehead Clan win the league and Nottingham take the Erhardt Conference title.

The Giants' hopes of winning the conference were brought to an end when the Panthers won a penalty shoot-out at the Odyssey Arena on Saturday night.

They followed that up with a 5-1 win yesterday, with Doucet at the heart of it.

After a scoreless first period he put the Panthers ahead on a powerplay at 33:14.

The Giants quickly levelled through Craig Peacock at 34:06, but their penalty kill and powerplay let them down in the third period.

Doucet scored twice short handed, either side of a Geg Jacina powerplay goal and Cody Wild struck the fifth.
