Listen: Belfast Giants sign 42-year-old forward to make landmark appearance in Manchester

Ashley Tait is set to make his 800th Elite League appearance this weekend and he will do it with a new team.

The 42-year-old British forward has been added to Adam Keefe's Belfast Giants panel for this weekend's away games against Manchester and Sheffield.

The Giants have been shortbenched in recent games, hit by injuries and suspensions but that situation will be aided by Tait, who began the 2017/18 season with the Milton Keynes Lightning.

He will wear the #42 jersey for the Giants and Saturday night will be his 800th game in all Elite League competitions. Tait has won over 100 caps for Team GB and multiple championships in the UK and Europe including four Elite League titles and four Playoff Championships.

He told A View From the Bridge that he's not sure how long he will be with the Giants.

"I haven't really made any decisions, " he said. "I just see it as an opportunity to play, to help Belfast out and if something comes of it then great. If not, I'm not too worried about it.  I've still got the itch. I still enjoy it and get that excitement."

Adam Keefe has no doubt the 6'1 former Sheffield and Coventry player fits the bill: “I have played against Ashley many times and I like his game. Once we found out that Ashley was available to join us this weekend, there was no hesitation in making an approach.”

“A shortbench presents it's own challenges as well as opportunities for other players and I am looking forward to getting Ashley into the lineup on Saturday in Manchester.”
