Belfast Giants winger Lewis Hook believes the team are on to a winner after they made it two wins from two to kick off the 2019/20 season after they took apart Swedish side Mora IK at the SSE Arena for the second night in a row.
The new-look Giants - who had all 13 summer signings on the ice on both nights - dazzled, defeating their Swedish opponents 4-1 on Sunday having already beaten them 3-1 on Saturday.
New defenceman Matt Pelech showed an offensive flair with two goals in Sunday's win, while Jordan Smotherman grabbed a powerplay goal on the 5-on-3 in the third period.
Hook celebrated his 23rd birthday in style as he was named man-of-the-match having scored the final goal.
"Good birthday, eh?" laughed the English winger.
"It was a really good weekend, it was nice to get a few games under our belts and I thought the boys played really well both games.
"As a team, you never really know how you'll play in your first pre-season games, but we've trained really hard these last couple of weeks and in both games we dominated.
"If we keep working the way we're at then this could be a really good season."
In Saturday's win the goals came from Ben Lake on the powerplay, Patrick Mullen and Kevin Raine. New netminder Shane Owen conceded just the two goals across the two games, making some excellent saves in the process in a convincing start.
