Shot-stopping Tyler's exploits are recognised

By Adam McKendry

Belfast Giants netminder Tyler Beskorowany has been named the Elite League's Player of the Week after he saved 44 of the 45 shots he faced at the weekend.

The Canadian goalie, who kept his first 60-minute shutout for Belfast against the Nottingham Panthers on Saturday, before conceding just once at the Cardiff Devils on Sunday, has been sensational since joining from the Edinburgh Capitals in the off-season and leads the league in save percentage (.940) and goals against average (1.67).

His exploits helped the Giants to another four point weekend, meaning they lead the Elite League by four points and have now won their last seven games, taking them into this week's Continental Cup on a high.

"(The weekend) was really good," said Ontario native Beskorowany.

"I think I played well, and for the entire team it was a 'statement weekend' for us going into Nottingham and Cardiff.

"We outscored them 12-1 this weekend, and it was really good for the team to get those wins."
