Ireland's Alistair Kennedy and Barry Kane must learn on the job

By David Mason

Ireland's Alistair Kennedy and Barry Kane go into the unknown in the World Indoor Pairs Championship at Potters Leisure Resort next month.

The Ballybrakes Community boys booked their place in the sport's top stage by winning the Professional Bowlers' Association's qualifier at the Baker Stadium back in October.

But before they dare dream of walking out on to the famous blue portable rink, they must negotiate a three-way play-off involving Hong Kong and Israel.

"We face prospect of a lot of bowling, just to get into the first round proper," said Kane. "We'll obviously not know very much about our opponents until we get over there.

"It's a big challenge, but we are looking forward to it."

Meanwhile, North West begin the defence of their IIBA Women's Inter-zone Championship when they host Mid Down at Limavady on Saturday.
