Laverty claims maiden pole
Eugene Laverty claimed pole position for the first time in his career ahead of Sunday's World Superbike races at Silverstone.
The Aprilla Racing Team rider edged out Spain's Carlos Checa and Jonathan Rea, who complete the front row of the grid.
Kawasaki Racing Team's Tom Sykes, who laid down a marker in qualifying practice on Friday, starts on the second row of the grid in fifth place, in between Loris Baz and Chaz Davies.
Baz claimed the fastest lap of two minutes 04.063 seconds in Superpole 2 but Laverty's consistency saw him take first place after the final round of qualifying.
Championship leader Sylvain Guintoli qualified in ninth place on the third row of the grid, alongside Davide Giugliano and Leon Camier.
