Andrew Watson is in it for the long haul at McLaren

By Sammy Hamill

Andrew Watson has been retained by the McLaren GT team and will drive in this year's Blancpain European endurance sports car series.

Now part of McLaren's GT Academy programme, Watson, from Donaghmore, is included in a six-man squad alongside factory driver Rob Bell and New Zealander Shane van Gisbergen.

They will be joined by Frenchman Come Ledogar and two other Academy drivers Struan Moore and Alex Fontana.

They will share a pair of McLaren 650S GT3s run by customer team Garage 59 in the series which starts at Monza on April 23. Watson graduated from the UK Ginetta championship and was selected as a member of McLaren's young driver scheme at the start of last year.

Meanwhile, Kajetan Kajetanowicz led the Rally Islas Canarias at the end of the first leg after Mads Ostberg crashed on the final stage of the day.
