Bishopscourt Rally: Biggerstaff braced for last minute rush
Stuart Biggerstaff is facing a race against time as he battles to be on the start line for this weekend’s McGrady Insurance Bishopscourt Rally.
Biggerstaff, the reigning Northern Ireland champion, is in a race against the clock to have his Subaru Impreza ready for round two of the Hankook sponsored series at the County Down circuit.
He was in second place in round one at Kirkistown when his S9 Impreza WRC suffered engine failure.
Now the 22-year-old, NI’s youngest ever champion, says it is going to be tight to make Saturday’s deadline.
“We are still waiting for some parts to arrive so it is going to be a real lastminute.com scenario,” he said. “I can see it going right down to the wire.”
The line-up for the Ballynahinch Club round is touching the 80 mark and includes Kenny McKinstry, first round winner and former champion.
He took the victory ahead of Connor McCloskey when the Kirkistown event was ended prematurely after Cyril Doherty suffered a heart attack and died at the wheel of his Subaru.
Since the championship was last at Bishopscourt the circuit has benefited from a share of the government’s £2m investment in motorsport and the changes for Saturday’s event will include a new ‘right over crest’ section which clerk of the course Paul Conlon thinks will add a significant new twist.
