Charles Martin is set to partner Craig Breen for Euro test

By Sammy Hamill

Craig Breen will have a new Peugeot Academy team-mate for four rounds of the European Rally Championship starting with next week's Circuit of Ireland.

Young Frenchman Charles Martin will drive a Peugeot 208 T16 alongside rally favourite Breen, his prize for winning last season's French Peugeot Cup series. Martin will also join former World S2000 champion Breen for the rounds in the Azores, Czech Republic and Greece.

Fellow Frenchman Robert Consani, currently tied second with Breen in the ERC points standings, is switching from Peugeot and will drive a new R5 Citroen on the Easter event which starts from Belfast on April 2.

The entry list has topped the permitted 140 starters and includes European championship leader Kajetan Kajetanowich from Poland. He won the opening round in Austria but it was Breen who took round two in Latvia last month.

Meanwhile, Andrew Purcell won the Donegal Forest Rally, second round of the Valvoline Irish gravel championship. Driving a Mitsubishi Evo, Purcell finished seven seconds ahead of Josh Moffett, also in a Mitsubishi, with Mick O'Brien third in his Ford Focus to retain the championship lead. Niall Henry was best of the Ulster drivers, fourth in his Mitsubishi.
