Newly-crowned British Superstock champion Danny Buchan will start as a massive favourite for today's Sunflower Trophy crown at the JAS Finaly sponsored event at Bishopscourt in Co Down.
The 21-year-old Essex lad set a blistering pace during yesterday's practice and qualifying session, coming within 0.6sec of the outright lap record on his Tsingtao Racing Kawasaki.
Buchan said: "I love this track it is so much fun and I can't wait to get stuck in today. The track is tight and twisty which is what I favour and will work well with my ZX10R, which I won the British Superstock Championship on this year.
"She should certainly be competitive around here, but I'm sure I'll have to keep an eye on those fast 600 local boys Seeley and Irwin. But overall the day should be good fun and our goal is to win that great Sunflower Trophy and entertain the local fans."
Carrick's Glenn Irwin set the pole position time and an unofficial new lap record in the Supersport class aboard his Gearlink Kawasaki during qualifying. The 24-year-old who won five races this year in the British series will expect a tough battle from eight-time race winner and British Supersport runner-up Alastair Seeley, who will be making his last appearance for local team Mar-Train Racing at today's meeting.
Warm up commences at 9am, with 14 races scheduled.
