Eugene Donnelly aiming to break his duck

By Sammy Hamill

Eugene Donnelly has joined the August 10 line-up for the Orchard Motorsport Lurgan Park Rally.

And the five-times Irish Tarmac champion is to drive the Subaru that has been dubbed "the car that can't stop winning".

Donnelly will be on board the McKinstry Motorsport S14 Impreza which recently won the Cavan Rally and the Donegal International in the hands of Sam Moffett.

Donnelly himself steered it to victory in the May Day Rally at St Angelo earlier in the year.

Now he is hoping it will help him end his Lurgan Park drought.

"I've driven every sort of car there – Mk2 and the Mk3 Escorts, a Toyota Celica, a Subaru, a Toyota Corolla," he said.

"I came close to winning in the WRC Corolla, but Kevin Lynch outgunned me in his Subaru, which had that wee bit more grunt.

"You need loads of power in Lurgan Park and the S14 has it in buckets full as well as fantastic traction out of the corners. It could be the car to finally get over the finish line in first place."

Donnelly will be co-driven by Adrian Fraser, who partnered him at St Angelo and the Subaru will be backed by Lakeland Tyres as well as Protune Remapping.

Meanwhile, one of Donnelly's big rivals, Derek McGarrity, is in a race to make the start line.

His Ford Focus blew its engine at the end of the Donegal Rally and it will be close to the deadline before it is returned to his Glengormley base after a re-build.
