Five-in-a-row for Kelly as master of West Cork wins Rally Championship
Donagh Kelly proved again he is the master of West Cork, winning the Clonakilty-based opening round of the Irish Tarmac Rally Championship for a record fifth year in a row.
Untroubled, unchallenged, he and co-driver Conor Foley led from start to finish in their WRC Ford Focus to win by just under two minutes from the R5 Ford Fiesta of Josh Moffett with reigning Tarmac champion Sam Moffett third in another R5 Fiesta.
But while Kelly could celebrate an amazing run of West Cork wins, the Moffett brothers had every reason to be satisfied with their weekend too, the rule which excludes WRC cars from championship points leaving them in first and second places in the 2018 series.
There was no touching Kelly, of course, the Donegal driver laying down a marker from the first stage on Saturday where his Focus was 18 seconds faster that the field. From there he built his advantage and was able to throttle back towards the finish yesterday.
