Hanninen conjures magic in Monte Carlo
Juho Hanninen dominated the first day of the Monte Carlo Rally, opening up a 44.5-second lead over his Skoda team-mate Freddy Loix.
The Finn, who succeeded Ulsterman Kris Meeke as Intercontinental Challenge champion in 2010, was in complete command.
Belgian Loix was fastest on the final stage of the day, but by less than a second, although he increased his advantage over the third placed Peugeot of Petter Solberg and his Ballyclare co-driver Chris Patterson to 10 seconds.
In an S2000 Peugeot, they speeded up to climb to third, edging out Stephane Sarrazin.
