Harper revelling in Porsche Supercup role
Daniel Harper is continuing to live the dream.
Fresh from an exhilarating weekend at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, in which he reached the top 10 run-off in the hillclimb event and got to drive a galaxy of priceless Porsches, the Hillsborough teenager is preparing to line up in front of a 100,000-strong British Grand Prix crowd at Silverstone on Sunday.
Harper, leader of the GB Porsche Carrera Cup series, will make a guest appearance in the Mobil 1 Porsche Supercup race in which he will face 30 of the top Porsche drivers from around the world.
And Harper, in his second season of a Porsche junior scholarship, has already demonstrated he won't be out of place on the grid.
In the official Supercup tests at Silverstone, he ended with the second fastest time overall in his JTR team Carrera and topped two of the four individual sessions. He was just six hundredths of a second slower than Julien Andlauer's ultimate time.
"It's going to be a class experience being with F1 and I'm definitely looking forward to it," said Harper.
"Even for the two-day test, I really had to speed my game up to be at the front.
"At the end of the first day, I was P8. I looked over all the data with the team to find little improvements and we made a couple of changes to the car. Day two went really well and I ended up second overall. I didn't really expect to be that far up.
"If I have one of my best weekends, we could be fighting for the podium, but if I'm just slightly off my game, because the level of competition is so high, I could end up 10th or worse."
Harper will be joined on the grid by fellow 2019 GB race winner George Gamble, and Olympic cycling legend Sir Chris Hoy also makes a guest appearance.
