Jennings proves he is still king of the forests

By Sammy Hamill

Not content with winning his first international rally, holding second place in the Irish Tarmac championship as well as leading the production category, Garry Jennings has moved back to the top of the standings in the Irish forest rally series.

The busiest and arguably the best driver on home events this year, Jennings continued his amazing run of successes at the weekend by winning the Sean Conlon Memorial Rally based at Mitchelstown.

In typical Jennings fashion he had set his sights on a weekend double, tackling the Sligo Rally on Saturday in co-driver Herbie Blackburn’s WRC Toyota Corolla before heading further south for the Conlon Memorial event on Sunday in his Group A Subaru Impreza.

The Corolla stopped on the first stage with a mysterious engine fault and Jennings finished 19 minutes 35 seconds behind winner Shane Maguire in his Group N Subaru. Jennings also travelled to Co Cork where he switched to his Subaru to take his third forest win of the season.
