Kane beaten by clock

By Sammy Hamill

Steven Kane and his JRM Nissan team came with minutes of completing their first 24-hour race only to be denied by transmission failure.

Ballynahinich driver Kane was at the wheel of the Nissan GT-R Nismo he shares with Peter Dumbreack and Lucas Luhr when it jammed in gear just 20 minutes from the end of the Spa 24-hour race in Belgium.

"It was a real blow to take after getting so close to the finish," said Kane who had anchored the team to third place in the previous round of the European GT endurance series at Paul Ricard in France. "It was our first 24 hour race and the goal was to get to the finish. We were nearly there but these things happen in racing."

Adam Carroll finished in 14th place after the Gulf Racing McLaren he was sharing with Bob Bell and Nico Verdonck lost 10 laps with a seized rear hub.

* Entries  for the 2013 Todds Leap Ulster Rally, which will take place on August 23 and 24, are starting to flood in ahead of the event's debut in Fermanagh and Tyrone.
