First the Circuit of Ireland, now the Circuit of Kerry - it has been a good week for Derek McGarrity.

The Northern Ireland champion followed up his fourth Easter victory with a last-gasp win on the Kerry round of the Dunlop Irish national championship yesterday.

Kevin Barrett led throughout the day in his S11 Subaru and he was still seven seconds in front tackling the final stage, but McGarrity launched one last attack and set fastest time in his S12 Subaru — seven seconds faster than Barrett!

The outcome went to a tie-break, the winner being the driver fastest on the final stage — McGarrity. Niall Maguire finished in third and takes the lead in the series after Mel Evans, winner of the first two rounds, retired.
