The Circuit of Ireland is on next year's rally calendar

By Sammy Hamill

The Circuit of Ireland has been included in the draft calendar for the 2015 European rally championship. And it could be joined by a second UK-based round.

If its place is confirmed, Rally Yorkshire, also known as the Trackrod Rally Yorkshire and until this year part of the British championship, would be the first English event to be part of the European series.

It is scheduled to take place next October based at Harrogate.

The Circuit of Ireland was a hugely successful part of the Eurosport-promoted series this year and was won by the current ERC leader, Skoda's Esapekka Lappi. It is again listed for Easter next year.

Eurosport's motorsport development director Francois Ribeiro said: "We expect the calendar for next year in a couple of days and while there is no final confirmation for Yorkshire yet, it is looking strong. With the Circuit of Ireland as well, it is looking very nice for the UK to have two from 10 rounds."

Meanwhile, Declan Boyle has opted out of next week's Cork '20' International but is still confirmed as winner of the Irish Tarmac Championship.

He was already champion in all but name but with second placed Garry Jennings also choosing to give Cork a miss, Boyle takes the title for the first time.

Instead he will target the Donegal Harvest Rally the following week and his bid to become just the second driver to win both the Tarmac and Irish national championships in the same season.

Although Jennings, outgoing Tarmac champion, is not a contender in the national series he is expected to head for Donegal too.
