By Sammy Hamill

Damien Toner again dominated the North Armagh Club's Rainbow Communications Loughgall Rally, winning for the fourth year in a row.

The Armagh haulage contractor, co-driven by Joe Comerford, led from start to finish in his 2.5-litre Ford Escort and set fastest times on all six stages through the picturesque Loughgall Country Park to win by almost half a minute from Keith White, also in a Ford Escort.

John Bradley, last year's runner-up, was third in his Escort, closing to within a second of White at the finish. Jason Black was fourth ahead of James Kennedy and Barry Morris, all in Escorts.

Meanwhile, the Sligo Rally, fourth round of the Irish National Championship, has been cancelled. Originally scheduled to take place yesterday, it was postponed because the threat of melting tar on the roads.

The organisers had hoped it could take place next Sunday but with no let-up in the current hot weather, they have accepted it cannot take place.
