Watch: Belfast revved up with sound of Formula One as David Coulthard speeds through city centre

Formula One has come to Belfast once again.
Formula One has come to Belfast once again.

Belfast was listening to the unmistakable sound of a Formula One car zooming through the city streets on Saturday evening.

David Coulthard climbed into the Red Bull Racing car and showed a captivated crowd just what Formula One is all about.

In the same 2012 car that Sebastian Vettel won a hat-trick of world championships in, 13-time Formula One race winner Coulthard took over the streets around the city hall.

"V8 engine - so not the hybrid formula cars that race today - but the good news is you have that raw sound and power coming from them," he said beforehand.

Coulthard was also joined by local motorcycle legends Jeremy McWilliams and Ryan Farquhar, stunt bike rider Mattie Griffin from Galway and Drift Champion and Red Bull athlete, Conor Shanahan from Cork.

Coulthard said he was "delighted" to be back in the city after a similar event was held eight years ago.

"When they mentioned they were coming back to Belfast I said I definitely wanted to be part of this one... you just feel the warmth of the locals and it's great just to bring something different."

He said the Belfast set up was more like a US street circuit and may not have the "natural flow" of the famous Monte Carlo track.

"The tarmac is very nice so it's perfect for the Grand Prix car."
