Bliss for Rea in anniversary treble success
Man in a hurry Jonathan Rea had an extra special reason for jetting straight home to Templepatrick last night after completing his incredible first three wins in a row in a World Superbike round to sensationally power back into the series lead.
But the reigning four-times world champion's first thoughts were to celebrate with wife Tatia, family and friends on the couple's sixth wedding anniversary.
Rea arrived at Donington Park, for his home British round, 16 points behind behind leader Alvaro Bautista of Spain and left with a 24-point lead in the championship.
Kawasaki rider Rea (32) followed up Saturday's opening race win with victory in the Superpole and second WSB race yesterday.
He now heads for next weekend's US round at Laguna Seca in California back on track for a historic fifth in a row world title win.
However, he admitted: "I would have laughed if you had told me on Friday that I would win three races. I didn't expect this.
"I'm on a plane to Belfast now and straight to my local bar to celebrate before starting to think about next weekend."
