Cancellation denies Jonathan Rea World Superbike record bid
Jonathan Rea was denied a chance at breaking more records at the World Superbike season climax with the final race cancelled.
The Kawasaki rider was aiming for his 12th successive win giving him the most victories in a season but race organisers called off the event for safety concerns.
Severe weather had hit the Losail International Circuit in Qatar which had delayed the start of the race.
There was standing water remaining in many parts of the circuit after the Supersport race.
Four-time champion Rea had taken victory in Friday's opening race to equal Doug Polen's 1991 17 race winning streak.
Eugene Laverty, meanwhile, is still hopeful of a ride for next season after it was announced that he would not be retained by Shaun Muir Racing for the 2019 World Superbike Championship.
